Rules of the Game
Goal
- Move all your marbles into the opposite triangle before your opponents.
- This version supports 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 players (you + computer opponents).
- Each player uses the official opposite-triangle objective for the selected player count.
How to Move (Turn Options)
- You can make only one move per turn.
- Single Step: Move one peg to an immediately adjacent empty hole.
- Single Hop: Jump over one adjacent peg (your own or an opponent peg) into the empty hole directly beyond it.
- Multi-Hop: You may chain multiple hops in one turn and change direction after each hop.
- Hopping is optional; jumped pegs are never removed.
Rules & Etiquette
- No Peg Removal: Marbles are never captured or removed from the board.
- Destination Triangle Lock: Once a peg enters its destination triangle, it cannot be moved back out, but it can still move within that triangle.
- Winning: The first player to transfer all 10 pegs into the opposite triangle wins immediately.
History of the Game
Chinese Checkers is a modern adaptation of the older game Halma. Despite its name, it was popularized in Europe and later spread globally as a fast and social race game. Its six-point star board allows up to six players, making each match dynamic and strategic.
The core challenge is balancing quick progress with smart positioning. Strong players plan long jump routes while avoiding self-blocking in crowded zones.
Winning Strategies
- Maximize each turn: You get one move per turn, so favor moves that gain the most distance, especially multi-hop chains.
- Build hop lanes: Keep marbles spaced so they can act as stepping stones for future hops by your other marbles.
- Use both move types: Hopping is optional, so use a single step when it improves your next turn's hop opportunities.
- Manage traffic early: In 4 to 6 player games, center lanes can jam quickly, so switch lanes before your path is blocked.
- Finish cleanly in the destination: Once a marble enters the destination triangle it cannot leave, so arrange the triangle efficiently as you fill all 10 marbles.
